Linden is the county seat of Marengo County in Alabama's Black Belt, home to about 2,000 people along the Tombigbee River. Highway 28 runs through downtown, connecting to US 43 about 15 miles east for routes to Tuscaloosa and Mobile. The 1905 courthouse with its prominent clock tower anchors the historic town square.
