Lincoln sits along Interstate 55 in central Illinois, about 160 miles south of Chicago and 100 miles north of St. Louis. As the Logan County seat, it's a convenient highway stop with access via US Route 121 and State Route 10. The flat prairie location experiences typical Midwest seasons. Lincoln uniquely holds the distinction of being the only city named after Abraham Lincoln before he became president, officially christened in 1853 when Lincoln himself helped dedicate the community.
