Lima lies in northwest Ohio along Interstate 75, about 80 miles from both Toledo and Dayton. The city serves as Allen County's seat amid flat agricultural plains. I-75 provides the main north-south route, while US Route 30 runs east-west through town. State routes 81, 117, and 309 connect Lima to surrounding communities. Lima Allen County Airport sits 6 miles southeast of downtown. The city is home to the Lima Army Tank Plant, one of America's few active military tank manufacturing facilities.
