Lewes is Delaware's oldest town, sitting where Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Route 1 brings most visitors from Rehoboth Beach and points north, while Route 9 connects inland areas. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry makes this a key transit point between Delaware and New Jersey. Delaware Coastal Airport is 5 miles northwest of downtown. Founded in 1631, Lewes calls itself the "First Town in the First State."
