Lerna is a farming community of 226 people in east-central Illinois, about 12 miles southwest of Charleston. Reach it via Interstate 57 to Route 16 west, then local roads, or take State Route 130 for more direct access. Most traffic involves short trips to Charleston or Mattoon for services. The town sits in prime agricultural land that produces some of Illinois' highest crop yields per acre.
