Leona is a tiny Kansas farming community of about 50 people in Doniphan County, near the Nebraska border. Reach it via US Highway 36, which connects to St. Joseph, Missouri (30 miles southeast) and runs west across northern Kansas. From Kansas City, take I-29 north to US 36 west, about 80 miles total. The town was named after Leona Heffner, whose father ran the post office starting in 1887.
