Leesville is a small city in west-central Louisiana, about 45 miles southwest of Alexandria. US Highway 171 runs right through town, making it easy to reach from Alexandria to the north or Lake Charles to the south. Highway 8 connects east-west across the parish. The city serves as Vernon Parish's county seat and sits near Fort Johnson, a major Army base that shapes much of the local economy and brings military families to the area.
