Lebanon sits in Virginia's Appalachian coalfields where US Route 19 meets State Route 82. Most visitors arrive via US 19 north from Kentucky or south from Interstate 81 near Abingdon, about 35 miles away. The town serves as a regional hub for surrounding mountain communities, resting in a valley at 2,100 feet elevation. Lebanon is home to the State Theatre, which has been showing movies continuously since 1929 and still features its original Art Deco marquee.
