Leaf River is a farming village of 477 people in Ogle County, about 15 miles southwest of Rockford via Route 72. The town sits along the small Leaf River waterway in typical northern Illinois agricultural country. I-39 runs 10 miles east for longer trips, while most local traffic uses Route 72 through gently rolling farmland. The village got its name from the modest river that flows north toward the Rock River system.
