Lawrence is an independent city surrounded by Indianapolis in northeastern Marion County. Take I-465 to reach it from anywhere in the metro area, or use I-70 from the east/west and I-69 from the northeast. Pendleton Pike (State Road 67) runs straight through town toward downtown Indy, about 12 miles away. The city grew around historic Fort Benjamin Harrison, and today you can visit the 1,700-acre state park built on the former Army base.
