Lawndale is a small Cleveland County town of about 740 people, located 45 miles west of Charlotte along US Highway 74. The main route in is US 74 from Charlotte or Asheville, with State Route 18 providing north-south connections to Shelby and Forest City. The town sits in rolling Piedmont foothills and serves as a gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lawndale hosts the annual Cleveland County Fair each September at the local fairgrounds.
