Laurel sits along Interstate 59 in Mississippi's Pine Belt, about 30 miles from Hattiesburg and 100 miles from the Gulf Coast. US Highway 84 runs east-west through downtown, while Highway 15 connects north-south through the area. The humid subtropical climate brings hot summers and mild winters. The city became famous as the filming location for HGTV's "Home Town," featuring restored early 1900s homes in its historic downtown district.
