Laurel is a small Franklin County town of about 440 people in southeastern Indiana, roughly an hour from Indianapolis via I-74 and SR-1. Most traffic uses US Route 52 for east-west travel and State Road 1 for north-south connections to Brookville and other regional communities. The town sits in the gently rolling Whitewater River valley, where early settlers built mills powered by the area's streams.
