Lapwai is a small reservation town of about 1,000 people in north-central Idaho's Palouse hills, 12 miles southeast of Lewiston on US 95. Most visitors come through on the 20-minute drive from Lewiston or while traveling the US 95 corridor between Spokane and central Idaho. The town sits in traditional Nez Perce territory and houses the tribal headquarters, making it the political center of the Nez Perce Reservation.
