Lancaster is a small county seat in north-central Missouri, about 20 miles from the Iowa border. Highway 136 runs east-west through town, connecting to Kirksville 25 miles southeast and continuing toward Kansas City. Route 149 provides north-south access to Keokuk, Iowa, and Macon. The 1881 red brick courthouse with its working clock tower anchors the town square and has been keeping time for over 140 years.
