Lanark is a small farming town in northwestern Illinois, about 20 miles from Freeport via Route 64. The main access is Illinois Route 64 running east-west through town, connecting to US Route 52 for longer trips. From Chicago, take I-88 west to Route 52 north through Mount Carroll, then Route 64 east. The 1894 Carroll County Courthouse anchors the town square with its striking red brick Victorian architecture.
