Lamar is a small Darlington County town of about 1,200 people, located 20 miles southwest of Florence via US 52 and US 15. The main route from Columbia follows I-20 east to US 15 north for about 75 miles through rural South Carolina. The town sits in rolling Sandhills terrain with sandy soils and scattered pines. Its restored 1920s railroad depot now serves as a visitor center and local history museum.
