Lamar is a small Hughes County town of 160 people along Highway 9 in east-central Oklahoma. It's about 70 miles southeast of Oklahoma City and 40 miles west of McAlester, sitting in rolling prairie country. Most visitors arrive on Highway 9 from either direction, connecting to I-40 at Shawnee or McAlester. The town's post office has been operating since 1903.
