Lamar is a small prairie town in southwestern Missouri, about two hours south of Kansas City via US Highway 71. The city sits at the intersection of several state routes, making it a regional hub for Barton County. Highway 71 provides the main connection north to Kansas City and south toward Arkansas, while State Route 160 runs east-west through town. The area's rolling farmland and continental climate create typical Midwest conditions with hot summers and mild winters. Lamar is the birthplace of President Harry S. Truman, and visitors can tour his preserved childhood home on Truman Avenue.
