Lamar anchors southeastern Colorado's agricultural region at the junction of US 50 and US 385. Most visitors drive US 50 from Pueblo (120 miles northwest) or Garden City, Kansas (60 miles east), while US 385 connects north to Sterling and south to Springfield. The Southeast Colorado Regional Airport serves the area just outside town. The city sits on the high plains where hot summers, cold winters, and constant wind shape daily life, and irrigation pivots dot the flat landscape for miles in every direction.
