Lakeside is a tiny Jefferson County town northwest of Denver that exists mainly to support its historic amusement park. Take Federal Boulevard (US-287) north about 10 miles from downtown Denver, then head west on 44th Avenue. The community of just four residents draws summer crowds to Lakeside Amusement Park, operating since 1908 with its vintage Cyclone wooden roller coaster that still charges per ride instead of gate admission.
