Lakeland is a small Minnesota city of about 1,500 people, located 25 miles northeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul in Washington County. Most visitors arrive via I-94 (Exit 251) or Highway 36 from the Twin Cities, with the drive taking about 45 minutes. The town sits among lakes and rolling woodlands typical of east-central Minnesota. The original 1950s municipal water tower, painted bright blue and white, serves as a distinctive landmark visible from Highway 36.
