Lakefield is a farming town of 1,500 in southwestern Minnesota, reached via US-60 which runs right through the center. Most visitors arrive from the Twin Cities on I-35 south to US-60 west, about 150 miles total. Jackson Municipal Airport sits a few miles northeast for general aviation. The town sits on rolling prairie land with the typical Midwest continental climate. Laura Ingalls Wilder worked at the local newspaper here in the 1880s before heading to South Dakota.
