Lake Mathews is an unincorporated community in Riverside County, about 20 miles southeast of Riverside city. Take Highway 60 to Cajalco Road exit for the most direct access, or use I-215 to Highway 60 from Orange County. The area sits in rolling hills with citrus groves and newer housing developments. The community centers around a massive 2,800-acre reservoir built in 1960 that stores water for Southern California's Metropolitan Water District.
