Lake Madison is a small lakeside community in eastern South Dakota, home to under 1,000 people and centered around a nearly 3,000-acre natural lake. Take Highway 34 west from I-29 (about 15 miles from Madison) or drive 45 miles north from Sioux Falls via I-29. The area draws fishing and boating enthusiasts during warmer months, while winter brings ice fishing when the lake freezes. The lake reaches 26 feet deep, making it one of the region's deeper natural lakes and a prime walleye fishing destination.
