Lafayette is a well-heeled suburb in Contra Costa County's rolling hills, about 20 miles east of San Francisco. Highway 24 is the main route in, connecting through the Caldecott Tunnel to Oakland and the Bay Area. The town draws commuters to its BART station and weekend visitors to Briones Regional Park. Its 1929 movie theater still operates downtown with its original art deco marquee intact.
