La Vernia is a small Wilson County town of about 1,100 people, located 30 miles southeast of San Antonio along Highway 87. Most visitors reach it via Interstate 10, which runs just north of town. The drive from San Antonio takes about 45 minutes on Highway 87 to I-10. La Vernia hosts an annual Chinaberry Festival each June, named for the trees that once defined the local landscape.
