Kulm is a small farming town in south-central North Dakota, about 90 miles from Bismarck via I-94 and Highway 281 south. The most scenic route from Fargo takes Highway 46 west through prairie farmland. This German-Russian settlement of 474 people hosts an annual Sauerkraut Festival each September, complete with homemade sauerkraut and traditional folk dancing.
