Kula perches 3,000 feet up Haleakala's slopes in Maui's cool upcountry, about 20 miles from Kahului Airport via Highway 37. This farming community grows much of the island's fresh vegetables in rich volcanic soil, with Saturday farmers markets showcasing the local harvest.
