Kouts is a small farming town in northwestern Indiana, about 15 miles southeast of Valparaiso along State Road 49. Most visitors arrive via US Route 30 to State Road 49 south, or from Interstate 65 through the county road network. The Porter County Municipal Airport is 10 miles northwest for general aviation. The town's active grain elevator still towers over the community, serving local farmers throughout the region.
