Kirwin is a tiny farming town in north-central Kansas, population 63, sitting along the South Fork Solomon River. You'll reach it via US-183 north-south or Highway 9 east-west, with Norton 15 miles northwest being the nearest larger town. The area is flat wheat country with geometric farm roads and wide-open prairie views. The main draw is Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge, which features a large reservoir built in the 1950s that's popular with waterfowl hunters.
