Kiowa is a small farming town about 40 miles southeast of Denver in Elbert County's rolling prairie country. Take US 285 southeast from Denver, then Highway 86 east for the most direct route, or drive Highway 86 west from Colorado Springs. The town sits along this east-west corridor at 6,200 feet elevation, surrounded by working ranches and wheat fields. Its century-old grain elevator still dominates the skyline as a landmark for travelers crossing Colorado's eastern plains.
