Keystone is a tiny Black Hills town that exists almost entirely to serve Mount Rushmore visitors, sitting just three miles from the famous monument. Highway 16A brings most travelers here from Rapid City, winding through pine forests and granite outcroppings. The scenic Iron Mountain Road approach includes pigtail bridges and tunnels that perfectly frame the presidential faces ahead. Main Street looks like an Old West movie set, complete with wooden boardwalks and frontier-style storefronts selling everything from fudge to Native American crafts.
