Kettle Falls is a small northeastern Washington city of 1,575 people positioned along the Columbia River near the Canadian border. Located where US Highway 395 crosses the river, it's about 80 miles north of Spokane and just 15 miles from the border crossing at Laurier. The surrounding area features rolling wheat fields, pine forests, and the Kettle River Range, with a continental climate of cold winters and warm, dry summers. The city's name comes from the historic Kettle Falls on the Columbia River, once a major Native American salmon fishing site now submerged beneath Lake Roosevelt.
