Kenansville is the county seat of rural Duplin County, about 60 miles southeast of Raleigh and 45 miles northwest of Wilmington. US Highway 117 runs north-south through town, connecting to Goldsboro and Wilmington, while Highway 24 heads east-west toward Clinton. The area is known for tobacco farming and poultry production. The town's main attraction is Liberty Hall Plantation, a restored 1850s Greek Revival mansion that operates as a museum.
