Kemmerer is a small Wyoming coal town sitting at nearly 7,000 feet in high desert country. US Highway 30 runs right through town and connects to Interstate 80 about 40 miles north, making it a stopping point between Salt Lake City and Cheyenne. The area gets heavy winter snow and has that classic wide-open Wyoming feel with sagebrush valleys and distant peaks. This is where JCPenney started in 1902 when James Cash Penney opened his first store here.
