Kansas is a tiny Walker County community about 40 miles northwest of Birmingham, reached via I-22 and State Route 269. The town sits in Alabama's Appalachian foothills among rolling hills and pine forests. Most trips connect residents to nearby Jasper for shopping or Birmingham for work. Despite its western namesake, this Kansas remains distinctly Alabama.
