Kalkaska is a small city in northern Michigan's Lower Peninsula, sitting at the intersection of US 131 and M-72 about 25 miles from Traverse City. The area is known for its forests, lakes, and outdoor recreation. Most visitors arrive via US 131 from Grand Rapids or I-75 to M-72. The town hosts the annual National Trout Festival each April, complete with a Trout Queen scholarship competition.
