Jenkins is a lakeside community of about 500 people on Whitefish Lake, 20 miles northeast of Brainerd via Highway 371 and County Road 11. It's a 130-mile drive from the Twin Cities through Minnesota's pine forests and lake country. The town's marina hosts an annual fishing contest that's been running since 1962.
