Jena is a small central Louisiana city of about 4,100 people, located 45 miles northwest of Alexandria via Highway 165. The town sits in rolling pine country along the Little River, with Highway 84 providing the main east-west route to Winnfield and beyond. Most visitors arrive from Monroe (60 miles northeast) or Alexandria, as interstate access requires driving to these larger cities first. The historic courthouse square anchors downtown, featuring the 1963 LaSalle Parish Courthouse that replaced an earlier building lost to fire.
