Jefferson is a small county seat in central Iowa, connected by US Highway 30 east to Ames and west to Carroll. State Highway 4 runs north-south through town. Most visitors come via US 30 from I-35 near Ames, about 35 miles away. The town centers around a classic courthouse square surrounded by farmland.
