Java is a tiny farming town in north-central South Dakota, about 20 miles from Mobridge via US 12 and county roads. Most visitors arrive on US 83 from Pierre (90 miles south) or drive down from North Dakota. The rolling prairie landscape shows classic Great Plains scenery with endless wheat fields. Local legend claims the town was named after wild coffee beans early settlers found growing in the area.
