Jasper sits deep in East Texas pine country, where US 96 and State Highway 190 intersect about 150 miles northeast of Houston. The drive from Houston takes you through Livingston on US 59, then east on 190 through thick forest. From Louisiana, take Highway 63 north from Beaumont. The 1889 county courthouse with its mansard roof and hourly chiming clock tower anchors the town square.
