Jackson, a small county seat in southeastern Ohio's hills, sits about 70 miles south of Columbus on US Route 35. The main route connects west to Chillicothe and I-71, or east toward Portsmouth and West Virginia. State Route 93 runs north-south through town to Wellston and Oak Hill. The 1879 Jackson County Courthouse dominates the town square with its distinctive Second Empire architecture and prominent clock tower.
