Jacksboro, the Jack County seat, sits about 60 miles northwest of Fort Worth along US Highway 281. The town connects to the Dallas-Fort Worth area via Highway 199 west to US 281 north, roughly an hour and fifteen minutes from Fort Worth. State Highway 199 provides east-west access through the rolling Cross Timbers prairie. The 1940 limestone courthouse, built from locally quarried stone, anchors the historic town square.
