Ivanhoe is a small East Texas community of about 1,680 people located 20 miles northeast of Beaumont in the heart of timber country. Reach it via State Highway 287 from US 96 north of Beaumont, or from Woodville 12 miles north. The town sits in dense Piney Woods terrain with rolling hills covered in pine and hardwood forests. The community was named after Sir Walter Scott's famous novel, reflecting the literary tastes of its 19th-century founders.
