Ishpeming is a former iron mining town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, about 15 miles west of Marquette on US-41. The drive from Marquette takes 20 minutes through forested terrain, while longer routes connect via US-41 from Wisconsin or US-28 from across the central UP. The town claims to be the birthplace of organized skiing in America, home to the National Ski Hall of Fame.
