Index is a tiny mountain town of 173 people tucked into the Cascade foothills along the Skykomish River. Located 65 miles northeast of Seattle via Highway 2, it's known primarily as a rock climbing destination with dramatic granite cliffs rising straight up from Main Street, creating one of Washington's most spectacular small-town settings.
