Independence is a small Wisconsin town of about 1,500 people in Trempealeau County's hill country. Highway 121 runs right through town, connecting to Arcadia and the Mississippi River area. Most visitors arrive via Highway 93 from Eau Claire (45 miles) or take I-94 to Highway 93 if coming from Minneapolis. The rolling dairy farm landscape sits between wooded bluffs typical of western Wisconsin. Independence still operates its own independent telephone company, a local institution since 1904.
