Independence is a tiny mountain community of about 80 people in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, reached via State Route 248 from Park City or I-80. Most visitors drive from Salt Lake City (about 45 miles) through scenic ranch country to access nearby recreational areas. The historic Independence schoolhouse from the 1860s still stands in this remote valley settlement.
